Alviar

Lamar Alviar, owner of L.A. Music Studios Ltd., is a multi-instrumentalist who plays various genres of music. Lamar began teaching music at an early age of 16. Through that experience, he grew to be proficient at saxophone, keyboards, guitars, drums/percussion and vocals. He has received multiple scholarships, including one to Berkley and one from the TD Jazz Intensive, and has studied at Capilano University.

 is a well developed session musician around the lower mainland and has toured internationally to the Philippines, New York, Las Vegas, and across Canada.

Jason

Torwalt

Jason, is a multifaceted artist and has over 10 years of guitar teaching experience for all age groups, and all levels of ability. He is a graduate in Music from RDC in Alberta, and a veteran stage performer. Playing music live, at festivals and clubs is a passion of his. You can hear his music, which is currently on ITunes, under the name “Law Of Lucid”. Jason’s teaching style is calm, meditative, encouraging, funny, understanding, and uplifting. Get your lessons from an artist who loves music and people, and can get you to the next level of musicianship you are looking for. 

Ilhan

Saferali

Ilhan Saferali, is one of Vancouver’s most versatile and creative up and coming musicians on the scene. He has played with Grammy award wining musicians such as Chucho Valdes and has worked with the David Suzuki Foundation for their ECOmusicology. Ilhan's playing ability ranges from Rock, Funk and Cuban music all the way to classic piano players such as Bill Evans and Oscar Peterson and is heavily influenced by modern jazz players such as Robert Glasper. Ilhan teaches Jazz trumpet and piano, as well as classical for both instruments and can help with preparing for RCM examinations.

Emilio

Suarez

Emilio Suarez is a musician, composer and a professional and insightful educator. He has won multiple festival awards in jazz and classical on the double bass with which he is currently pursuing a degree in performance at Capilano University. He teaches double bass and cello from beginner to advanced levels with a versatile curriculum that can include RCM technique and theory, Suzuki method, and contemporary pop and jazz learning styles.

Amir

Eslami

Amir has won multiple Iranian and international prizes (Italy, Australia and Netherlands) in music composition. He has released four music albums as a composer and more than ten music albums as a Ney (Persian Traditional Flute) player. His pieces have been performed in Iran, Italy, Australia, the US, the Netherlands and Canada. Amir published "Montazem Al-Hokama's Radif" (The oldest Persian music repertoire) by Art University in Tehran in 2014. Also, the Ambleside Symphony Orchestra performed his latest composed piece “Azeri Dances” (for Tar solo and orchestra) on 30th April 2016 in Vancouver.

He recently established “Vancouver Iranian Choir” with a group of musicians in North Vancouver to perform choral pieces by Iranian composers. The newest album “Of String’s Songs and Reed’s Cry” is published in Vancouver by Rumi Records. The latest album which would be published in the spring of 2017 by Rumi Records is “Dami Ba Pir-e Balkh”. He is the ney player and one of the composers in “Vashan” ensemble in Vancouver now.

Trevor

Whitridge

Trevor Whitridge started his first music lessons at age five on the piano and then on the trumpet a few years later. By the time he was twelve he was performing shows with various bands throughout Vancouver. He began teaching in 2013 and has been regularly giving private lessons to students of all ages since then. While currently in his last year of music studies at Capilano University, Trevor regularly performs live concerts at venues in Vancouver.

Samantha

Kung

Samantha is an experienced soloist, chamber music musician and orchestral player. She also has experience in working with singers and choirs. Samantha who is one of the concert masters in the UBC Symphony Orchestra is also well versed in the ways of playing in an orchestra as a member of the large ensemble, and as a leader.

Samantha has taught and aided many players of various ages and levels at music camps as a teaching assistant. She believes and aims to make teaching and learning of the violin into a positive and educational experience for each and every one of her students.

Marlowe

Rainey

Originating from Lynn Valley, British Columbia, Marlowe Rainey started piano at the age of 8. He is currently in his third year of Jazz School at the Capilano University Jazz Studies Program on a scholarship. Marlowe is majoring in piano with a minor in trumpet.

Marlowe has worked and performed with artists such as Norma Winstone, Ambrose Akinmusire, Donny Mccaslin, Hal Galper, Brad Turner, Steve Kaldestad, Dave Robbins, and Phil Dwyer.

Marlowe is currently the pianist for the Capilano A Band, the most esteemed instrumental ensemble at the school.
